Description
A quick and comforting snack combining zesty sloppy joe filling with creamy cheese blend on crispy garlic bread. Perfect for busy nights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large baguette or Italian loaf, sliced lengthwise
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey (lean works great)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, chopped (optional)
- 1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili powder or smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: pickled jalapeños, extra shredded cheese, sour cream or ranch dressing
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef or turkey until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Break it up with a spatula and drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and green bell pepper; cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt to make garlic butter.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice baguette lengthwise and spread garlic butter evenly on both halves.
- In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, and shredded cheddar until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the creamy cheese blend evenly over the garlic buttered bread. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture on top and spread evenly. Add extra shredded cheese if desired.
- Place assembled bread on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly and bread edges are golden and crisp.
- Remove from oven, let cool for a couple of minutes, then slice and serve warm with optional dips or pickled jalapeños.
Notes
If bread isn’t crispy enough, broil for 1-2 minutes watching carefully to avoid burning. Soften cream cheese before mixing for easier spreading. Drain excess fat from meat to prevent soggy bread. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat best in oven or toaster oven to maintain crispiness.
